Apple Intelligence now available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users: Here is everything you need to know

Apple has rolled out Apple Intelligence, a new suite of AI-powered features now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Users can get access to the Apple Intelligence features with the latest software updates (iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1). In a major boost for Indian users, Apple has also confirmed that English (India) will be officially supported in April. Apple Intelligence taps into Apple Silicon to make everyday tasks simpler, enhance device functionality, and prioritise user privacy. With these updates, users gain enhanced writing tools, streamlined notifications, and a revamped Siri—all designed with privacy at the core.
Key features of Apple Intelligence
Apple Intelligence includes Writing Tools that help polish text across apps like Mail, Messages, Notes, and even some third-party apps. Whether you’re writing an email or a note, you can rewrite, proofread, and summarise your text. You can even pick a tone, such as professional or friendly. The Proofread feature goes beyond basic grammar checks; it also provides suggestions with explanations, making it easy to refine your writing style.
Siri has also had a refresh. It now sports a sleek, glowing interface and enhanced conversational abilities. Siri can remember your previous commands, making follow-up questions feel more natural, and you can easily switch between voice and text inputs. It’s available across all Apple devices, including CarPlay, for a more seamless experience.
Apple Intelligence has improved the Photos app with a smarter search. You can now search for specific moments using descriptions like, “Lily at the beach in a red dress.” The Clean Up tool lets you remove unwanted objects or people from photos, while the enhanced Memories feature allows you to create a video story simply by typing a description.
For users managing a high volume of emails and notifications, Apple Intelligence offers Priority Messages and notification summaries. Important emails, such as last-minute invites or boarding passes, are highlighted, and long threads are summarised for quicker reading. Notifications are better organised on the Lock Screen to reduce distractions.
Privacy features
Apple in the blog said that it is committed to privacy with Apple Intelligence, processing most tasks directly on the device. For more complex tasks, Apple uses Private Cloud Compute to safeguard personal data. This system also allows external experts to review Apple’s code to uphold high security standards. Additionally, Apple now offers ChatGPT integration for Siri and Writing Tools, expanding their knowledge base without compromising privacy, as it anonymises data and refrains from storing it.
What’s next for Apple Intelligence?
More features are on the way in December, including a fun twist on Writing Tools that allows you to create messages in different formats, such as poems. There’s also Genmoji, a new emoji creator that makes custom emojis based on descriptions or photos. And for iPhone 16 users, a new Camera Control feature will provide instant information on nearby locations, such as translating restaurant menus.
Apple Intelligence will support additional languages by April, including Chinese, French, and German, making these tools accessible to even more users globally.
Availability
Apple Intelligence is now live on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, with new features planned for release in December. Apple’s ongoing updates will continue expanding the functionality and reach of Apple Intelligence, making it an increasingly useful tool across devices.
